Local TV News Notes

Here's some notes about local Capital Region news channels

Carey's Leaving:

WRGB morning co-anchor Carey Proctor will be leaving CBS 6 next Friday, August 4; according to a recent "Carey's Corner". In it she talks about why she is leaving channel 6. She says she wants to be closer to her family and work in the "more entertainment side of news". She will be heading to the west coast. Carey's Corner will continue online at this Youtube page. A search for her replacement is on.

Diane Lee back on Capital Region TV:
She use to co-anchor the Fox 23 morning news, but was let go; now Diane Lee is reporting for WTEN along with some fill-in reporting. According to the WXXA Wikipeda page (not the best source, I know) she is freelancing at Channel 10. Too me, it seems that there could be a better spot for her talents, either at WTEN or another station, however it is good to see her back on Capital Region TV.

The New wten.com:
After being delayed a week the new wten.com, the website of the Albany ABC station, is up and running. And besides a new sleek design it's not that different from the old wten.com; however we will see how the site evolves over time. I would like to see live-streaming newscasts on the site, along with live breaking news events.

Above the old WTEN.COM, below the new website for WTEN

WRGB off the radio
According to a statement by the station's GM, WRGB is off the radio because:

We do not have FCC authorization to transmit an analog signal. We only have authorization for a digital signal at this time.

You can read the full statement on WRGB's website.

Health~Care Post #2

So, if you don't know there is a health care debate going on right now, you might be living under a rock.

CBS6 Albany's Liz Bishop has a look at what the 4 options in this debate are.

But what about how it will be paid for? here's the President, and CBS6 Albany's Gerry Gretzinger with more.

And, what about those health care commercials, what's fact; what's fiction here's CBS6 Albany's Steve Flemish.

But here's something interesting, the latest NBC NEWS/WSJ poll just came out today and it shows that people are beginning to believe what the (R) are telling them about the new health care bill, like the new health care plan will pay for abortions (which it wont).

A full report from NBC's Chuck Todd here. And more on that poll here.

And of course, NBC News National Correspondent Steve Handelsman has the latest:

'TV to Talk About'

That's the CW Television Network's new slogan for the new Fall TV season, though with this weather people may not be thinking about Fall (let alone fall TV), but many television networks want you to. From ABC, CBS, NBC, and the CW all of the major networks [note: I'm not calling the CW a major network] have their '09 schedules already posted on their websites.

So; come this fall will there actually be "TV to talk about?" It use to be called "Must See TV," over at the peacock--- you know those shows you went to work -or school- the next day and just kept talking about (and no I don't mean all of these ridiculous reality shows).

It does look like there might be some good dramas, sitcoms, and even those guilty pleasure shows we just have to watch. As for "TV to talk about" we'll see how much we talk about those programs this fall, but there's one show that's already gotten a lot of talk and we haven't even seen one episode of it. It's The Jay Leno Show, NBC is being bold with this move to 10pm-which they hope will ultimately save them money and boost their ratings.

So what shows will I be watching, click on the calender I made:

Looking Ahead...

There are only a few more weeks of summer for use college folk. But here's some stuff to look forward to this week:

Sunday, August 16th David Gregory will host a round table debate on NBC's Meet The Press (Check your local listings).

Some of the guests on this weeks show: Fmr. House Majority Leader Rep. Dick Armey (R-TX), Sen. Tom Coburn, M.D. (R-OK), Fmr. Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD)& Rachel Maddow, Host of MSNBC's The Rachel Maddow Show.

Also this week, according to a tweet, WTEN-10 Albany's ABC Station will unveil a new website -anything's better then what they have now, but we'll see. WTEN is one of those stations that are now going to be managed by Gray Broadcasting, after their parent company Young Broadcasting filed for bankruptcy.

Update: A tweet earlier today said that the new WTEN.com will debut next week

Finally, This Saturday the 22nd, the Tri City Valley Cat's will give away a Steve Capporizzo (WTEN Weatherman) Bobble head, and I can't wait to get one!

POTUS: "TV loves a ruckus"

Yes, the media does love airing "outrageous" video whenever it can. President Obama was answering the question of a citizen at a Health Care Town Hall the other day, when he made that accusation; which, many news people have admitted is true. This morning on TODAY, MSNBC's Joe Scarborough said this about the media's and cable news' coverage of what would otherwise be local town halls.

No more then it's fair to say that soldiers and marines have been complaining for 8 years that we'll show a picture of a school being blown up, but we'll never show the school being built

One last thing about those town halls, here's Chris Mathew's must watch interview with the guy who brought a gun to a Town Hall.

As for the actual issues behind this debate, some of us don't really know what is even being proposed, however the other day the NY Daily News did a great piece outlining what's true -and what's not. Check that out that article here

And for those of us who like things in video format here's NBC News National Correspondent Steve Handelsman on the Health Care Debate:
